The Raleigh County Commission on Aging, Inc. not only provides transportation within Raleigh County but we also plan out of county excursions to areas of interest to our senior citizens. These trips take our seniors to visit theaters, shopping malls, natural scenic tours, and many other points of interest within a three-hour radius (150 miles) of Beckley. Though it doesn’t seem that far, we have managed to find ourselves on trips to Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Ohio!
Our trips are organized on a first come, first seated basis. We usually take 24 people and will gladly take more if there is enough interest. Anyone interested in participating in a trip must sign up at our Beckley Senior Center on South Kanawha Street in Beckley and pay the trip fee at the time of signup. Trip fees are calculated as a total cost for the distance, fuel consumption, tolls and time of the trip and then divided across all the passengers who will be traveling to reduce the cost that any single person must pay to ride. Admission for events or trip destinations is the responsibility of the seniors participating in the trip, but we always try to get a group discount and may ask everyone to contribute in pre-paying for such discounts if possible. Because we are trying to keep costs down by dividing across the total passenger capacity of a trip, no refunds for a trip can be offered. We therefore encourage people who wish to participate to be fully committed to completing the trip or at least arranging for another person to replace them if they cannot attend.
If you are interested in joining us on a trip please contact us at our Raleigh County Senior Center or contact Daniel Simmons.
